Get down with the fiction!
Writing fiction is something that I dream about doing in the back of my head when I start getting bored with my day job. The allure of writing a best-selling book. The obvious level of insane wealth and fame that will follow my first draft. The adoring fans who will wait with bated breath for my next release.
Sounds pretty fantastic, doesn’t it?
Well, as it turns out, making small steps, every day, is the best way to actually accomplish a goal and get better at things. Who knew? In the spirit of continual education, I’m launching the Fiction Friday newsletter.
Last year I started a side hobby called The Opening Paragraph Project where I wrote an opening paragraph to a potential story idea every day and posted them on social media. You can still check them all out on Twitter. It was a great exercise in forcing myself to write every day and allowed me to start the day with a little creativity but just a small commitment. After my daughter was born; however, it kind of fell off my radar of things to do.
Below are my three favorite opening paragraphs and the ones I think I’ll start Fiction Friday being focused on. After you read them, leave a comment about what one you think I should start writing first.
Another Planet
Meters Per Second
Broken Window
Skyscrapers
I’m hoping to have a short story or maybe even a novel after working on this newsletter for some period of time, but the main goal is to just keep myself writing.
This newsletter will be part of my experimental series and so it will only be available for paid subscribers. I’m also working on adding a Book Review weekly newsletter as well as a Gaming Weekly newsletter. Don’t think too much about it and take a chance. It’s easy to sign up as a paid subscriber and even easier to cancel!
